Le quartier de Lower east Side a été le premier lieu de vie des immigrants durant plus de 200 ans et ce bâtiments a accueilli plus de 15 000 immigrants entre 1863 et 1935.
Le Musée du Tenement est constitué de différents appartements restaurés qui retracent l’histoire des habitants avec leurs objets personnels.
Nous visiterons les appartements restaurés des familles Juives-Allemandes Gompertz et Italo-Catholique Baldizzi.

The Tenement museum tell the stories of immigrants who started their lives anew on Manhattan’s Lower East Side between the 19th and 21st centuries through the recreated apartment and businesses of real families in two historic tenement buildings. These tenements housed over 15,000 working class immigrants from over 20 nations while they served as residences.

Discover how immigrants survived economic depressions at 97 Orchard Street between 1863 and 1935. Visit the restored homes of the German-Jewish Gumpertz family, whose patriarch disappeared during the Panic of 1873, and the Italian-Catholic Baldizzi family, who lived through the Great Depression.
